Having to pay out-of-pocket expenses for medical bills can be financially debilitating. There's a national company that businesses are using to help customers should situations ever arise.

Aflac, the company known for its duck, has been around for decades helping people with supplemental insurance. They've had an office in Erie County since 2016.

The business helps with everything from dental insurance, vision insurance, even cancer insurance, but among all the brochures that are brought out to companies this Aflac office helps, it's accident insurance that is the most sought-after.

Zachery Peters makes his living working with heavy equipment. The operations manager with Turf Management, a landscaping and snow removal company, purchased supplemental insurance from Aflac. It came in handy when his young son got injured.

"He was in the hospital for a week; I missed a week of work for that," said Peters. "Through the accident coverage, we were given a large lump sum for that week's stay in the hospital."

Peters said any insurance questions he has are answered quickly and personally.

"We can work with companies with as few as three employees, so it doesn't have to be a huge company," said Drayke Karges, District Sales Coordinator.

Drayke Karges is the district sales coordinator. He oversees around 20 Aflac agents from this Buffalo Road office in Erie County.

"We're supplemental insurance," said Karges. "We're there to help with the out-of-pocket costs, and we partner with businesses to help create their benefits package or improve it."

Victor Whitelock's company is one of the local businesses. He's the owner of a seven-day-a-week delivery company called: Veterans Delivery Workforce.

"We deliver any parcel package that people order online, from cell phone cases all the way to refrigerators," said Whitelock.

He was introduced to Drayke and the Aflac options.

"The whole life insurance is one of the most popular ones that my staff is using," said Whitelock. "And one of the greatest things about that, they get to carry it with them."

Peace-of-mind options to help people live each day, with the help of a duck to spread the message.
