Pennsylvania’s REAL ID Program Recertified by U.S. Department of Homeland Security

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced it has once again earned full recertification for its REAL ID program from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA), maintaining compliance with the federal REAL ID Act of 2005.
The certification allows PennDOT to continue offering REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and photo IDs that can be used to board domestic flights and access federal buildings or military bases. Recertification is required every three years.
“Maintaining REAL ID certification is a complex and ongoing process,” said Kara Templeton, PennDOT’s Deputy Secretary for Driver and Vehicle Services. “This reflects the dedication of our team to upholding the highest standards for security and service.”
REAL ID is optional, but PennDOT encourages residents to determine if it’s right for them by visiting www.dmv.pa.gov/REALID.
The website provides information on required documentation, including proof of identity, Social Security number, Pennsylvania address, and any legal name changes.
First-time REAL ID applicants pay a one-time $30 fee plus the standard renewal fee.
REAL IDs can be obtained in person at a REAL ID Center or ordered online for eligible customers.
