Russell, PA - A Warren County jury has found 63-year-old Mark E. Saullo not guilty in the May 2024 shooting death of 55-year-old Keith Haskins.

The shooting happened on Memorial Day in 2024 at Saullo’s automotive repair shop in Russell. Saullo was charged with criminal homicide, and prosecutors asked the jury to consider a range of charges, including first-degree murder, third-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, and involuntary manslaughter.

Saullo claimed he acted in self-defense. Testimony began July 7th, with the verdict delivered on July 10th after a little over two hours of deliberation.

Defense attorney Jason Nard said the verdict confirmed what they believed from the start.

“We’re very relieved,” Nard said. “I am very relieved for my client, I'm relieved for his family and friends - I actually received communication from them the day after saying 'You gave us our father; our brother; our grandfather back'. This was very heavy subject matter, but fortunately when they jury saw the evidence, they agreed with us.”

First Assistant District Attorney Cody Brown issued a statement following the decision, stating, “While we respectfully disagree with the jury’s verdict in this case, we recognize and accept the role of the jury in our justice system,” Brown said. “This was a difficult and extremely emotional case for everyone involved. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Haskins family and their loved ones as they cope with the painful chapter in their lives. We commend them for their courage and will throughout this trial.”

The District Attorney’s Office says it stands by its decision to bring the case to trial but respects the outcome.

While the legal chapter has closed for Saullo, emotions remain high for both families.
