The Lucille Ball Comedy Festival Kicks Off
JAMESTOWN’S VERDICT IS IN — LUCY WAS RIGHT: LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE.
“There’s something about Lucille Ball in this area — everyone comes together to watch comedy. That’s what brings us together as a country. So, what better than a festival to celebrate that?” said Larry Noto, a visitor from Baltimore.
“We have such a great lineup of events — comedy, headliners like Jon Stewart and Bill Murray… there are just so many fun things to look forward to,” said Megan Eckwahl, the festival’s Manager of Marketing and Communications.
Visitors from across the U.S. — and beyond — have arrived for the festivities. Among them are Mike from Nova Scotia, Canada, and Emily from Cincinnati, Ohio, who first met right here in Jamestown seven years ago. Since then, the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival has become their annual tradition.
Mike and Emily are just two of the thousands of fans who make the journey to Jamestown each year. The Lucille Ball Comedy Festival draws nearly 10,000 visitors annually, all eager to laugh, connect, and celebrate the legacy of one of America’s most beloved comedians.
“Emily was by herself, and I said, ‘I’ll take your photo if you take mine.’ We just kept in touch from there,” said Mike Weiss. “Knowing I’m coming here means I get to see folks I’ve met before. The first time I came, it could’ve been a disaster — but it was one of the most overwhelmingly welcoming, inclusive, safe experiences I’ve ever had.”
Tickets to the festival — and to the National Comedy Center and Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Museum — are still on sale.
