Police: Warren Teen Admits to Planning School Shooting
A teenager is facing charges after admitting to planning a mass shooting at a Warren County high school
On Sept. 3, State Police spoke with 18-year-old Jared Rex of Warren at Warren General Hospital.
He was admitted to the psych ward the day prior for homicidal and suicidal ideations.
During the police interview, he admitted to "having thoughts and planning to commit a mass shooting at the Warren Area High School," police said.
Gary Weber, superintendent of Warren County School District, issued the following statement:
You may have seen recent media reports regarding a confirmed threat at Warren Area High School. I want to reassure you that from the very beginning, the District worked closely with law enforcement to address the situation. At no time were students or staff in danger, and steps were taken immediately to ensure the safety of our schools. These matters are always handled with the utmost seriousness and in partnership with law enforcement and other agencies. While I cannot share specific details due to student privacy and the ongoing legal process, I can assure you that the District will continue to prioritize the safety and security of all students and staff while respecting the rights of those involved. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Rex will be charged with two counts of making terroristic threats.
