Titusville Council Agrees to Relocate Harm-Reduction Vending Machine
Council placed a harm-reduction vending machine at Roberts Grove Park, saying it's about keeping residents safe. But some neighbors who live nearby argue Roberts Grove isn't the right location. After a constructive conversation tonight between residents and council, they have made an agreement.
"Our community has long had an issue with narcotics," said Councilman Gavin Griffin.
Once labeled the "meth capital of Pennsylvania," Titusville is still grappling with the lingering effects of drug abuse. Now, Titusville council members say they’re taking new precautions — one of which includes installing a harm-reduction vending machine.
"It includes fentanyl testing strips, Narcan, as well as reproductive products," said Councilman Griffin.
But some residents, like James Smith, who lives right across from Roberts Grove Park, say that while they understand the intent, the location raised concerns. Smith says he’s relieved the council decided to move it after hearing feedback.
"Fine, if that's what you want to do, but why would you put it at a place designed for young mothers who bring their small children there?" said resident James Smith.
The next council meeting will take place at Titusville City Hall on October 1st, where discussions will continue regarding possible relocation sites.
