A person has been taken into custody after brandishing a firearm during a fight outside of a school Thursday, Erie's Public Schools said in a letter to staff.

An altercation between East Middle School students happened after dismissal at the corner of East 7th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. 

"That altercation escalated when the students' parents became involved. One of the parents brandished a firearm," the letter said.

School police officers responded and "stabilized the situation" with help from Erie police. 

There were no injuries, the district said. 

There will be an increased law enforcement presence at East Middle School Friday.
