Unfounded Threat Brings Law Enforcement Response to Grove City College
There were some tense moments on the campus of Grove City College late Sunday afternoon, as multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a possible armed threat.
Police searched the campus of Grove City College after someone reported to the Grove City Police Department that there was an individual with a gun and possible shots fired in the area of the college's Henry Buhl Library.
According to campus officials, local law enforcement, including Grove City borough police, Pennsylvania State Police, the Mercer County Critical Incident Response Team, and Campus Safety responded immediately.
The library was evacuated and a shelter in place order was issued per Grove City College’s safety policies.
Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that they responded along with Grove City PD and in a statement said, "no evidence of an active shooter, or victims or witnesses claiming an active shooter was ever present at the library was found." The state police statement went on to say, "This is believed to be a
computer-generated swatting call."
According to a statement from the college: Security video footage has been reviewed and all campus buildings have been cleared. No evidence was found to confirm the report of a person with a weapon. An all clear was issued at approximately 6:40pm.
The statement went on to say that, "Grove City College remains committed to the safety of all students, faculty, and staff in our community." College officials also said they were advised by law enforcement that there have been a number of swatting incidents in the region today.
According to the Grove City Police Department Facebook page, the initial report of the possible threat was issued at 3:55pm, they indicated that they took the threat and safety of the community very seriously.
The incident is being investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police with the assistance of the Grove City Police Department. Pennsylvania State Police also confirmed that the Grove City Campus is secure, saying that no injuries were reported from this incident and there are no threats to the public at this time.
