The Cherry Fest is the only fundraiser for fire services in that Erie County community. 

The department that serves a portion of both Millcreek and Fairview, hopes several new and old funding sources will help pay the bills.

Calls are down and the fire department is hoping the tried and true fundraiser can still bring in enough for operating costs during such an unprecedented year.

“If there are thunderstorms anywhere, nearby the potential is that a large wave could come from this thunderstorm and catch them off guard,” said Kirk Lombardy, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

Action could come from Washington, D.C., as well as Harrisburg, because the federal government is also investigating.
