Preparation for the German Festival was right on schedule Friday.

Volunteers set up tents and unloaded trucks as they got ready to open on Saturday.

Great weather is expected for the 16th annual celebration of heritage in Erie, and festivities at Saint Nick's Grove will run Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

You can work up an appetite dancing to authentic German music, and then fill up on sauerkraut and schnitzel.

Of course, you don't have to be German to enjoy the festival.

"I think it does a nice job because it's not associated with any one clan or group or anything," said festival organizer Ray Luniewski. "It's open to all of them, from the whole area."

If you bring a canned food donation, you'll get a discount on your ticket price.
