A new research project out of Penn State Hershey Medical Center chose Erie as its first test site.

Researchers were in town to test a new method of intubation training for paramedics, and 20 medics from our area made up the first group.

It's called "RED", which stands for Remote Expert Direction, and it uses webcams, so that anesthesiologists can guide and help train paramedics from wherever they are.

The research team hopes their findings from the federally funded study will be applied across the nation.

They hope to complete the study with a total of 200 medics by this Summer.
