Jordyn Colao, Miss Pennsylvania 2012, graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in May, 2012. At Penn State she attained the honor of Magna Cum Laude, a GPA of 3.73 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Bio-behavioral Health. Jordyn, an avid student of the sciences, plans to continue her education on the graduate level and earn a masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies in order to ultimately practice in a cardiology unit.
While at Penn State Jordyn balanced her rigorous schedule of studies with membership in the Tapestry Dance Company. Consequently, she had the opportunity to travel to New York City to train with the renowned Steps Dance Studio on Broadway. She also helped to raise over $20,000 for THON, a dance marathon benefiting pediatric cancer. This effort aligned perfectly with Jordyn's role as an active advocate for the American Heart Association: she has spent five years promoting the AHA across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
In 2008, Jordyn graduated from McDowell High School at the top of her class. While in high school she was active in a myriad of activities which included Honors College, cheerleading, dance team, peer mediation and peer tutoring. Jordyn served as the Vice-President of her class during both her junior and senior years.
Jordyn has been tap dancing since the age of 3 when she immediately fell in love with the art. She currently dances with Candice Miscavage at the David Blight School of Dance. She has devoted a great deal of her time competing in national and world championships in Chicago, Baltimore, Virginia Beach and Orlando. In this manner, her competitive spirit and her artistic longings are both addressed and satisfied. She has performed at multiple NBA games and has, not surprisingly, won national and world championships in cheerleading and dance.
Jordyn became enthralled with the Miss Pennsylvania Organization in the fall of 2010 when she, for the first time, competed for and won the title of Miss Laurel Highlands. She was second runner up to Miss Pennsylvania 2011, as well as the winner of the preliminary talent and swimsuit award and the Miss America Academic Award. During her second year as she competed in the State pageant with the title of Miss Freedom Forge, she received the preliminary swimsuit award and the prestigious title of Miss Pennsylvania 2012.
Jordyn's platform, "Heart to Heart" – Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, is inspired by her tragic loss of three grandparents to heart disease. Jordyn sincerely wants to connect everyone in Pennsylvania to her platform, as everyone has surely been effected by the tragedies of heart disease whether through a friend, family member or from personal experience. She is also part of the "Jump Rope for Heart" campaign which allows children to raise money for their school through exercise.
Jordyn is the daughter of Joseph and Laurie Colao. She has two sisters Gabrielle and Alexa and is the godmother to her beautiful niece Paige.
