Mental health advocates are focusing on better patient care for those dealing with dementia.

The 2014 Fall Education Conference, "Living Well with Dementia", is taking place at the ambassador conference center today. Speakers are discussing ways to help the more than 5 million Americans suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Keynote speaker -- Lori La Bey -- is using her experiences of caring for her mother -- to push her message.

"The biggest change we need to have is to become dementia friendly, which is just to have a conversation,” La Bey said. “Stop worrying about being perfect and get back to the core of our relationship. And that goes for family members, businesses, communities at large."

Members from area mental and behavioral health organizations were on-hand providing assistance throughout the conference, as well.
