Millcreek School Board
The Millcreek school board met Tuesday night and re-elected Judy Wheaton as board president, and John DiPlacido as vice president. The board also voted to seek permission from the state for an additional increase in taxes, beyond what the Act 1" provision allows. Act 1 requires school districts to seek voter approval for tax increases greater than “the Act 1 Index.'' Districts can get exceptions from this requirement if rate increases are needed to cover specific types of costs.
Based on a formula Act 1 permits the the Millcreek School Board to raise taxes by 2.3 percent. The district will now ask the state to allow for an additional tax increase, of about two percent.
Even if granted, school officials say the measure doesn't mean taxes will go up that much. They say it's a precautionary measure, in case the district falls too much into the red.
