A tax cut for the middle-class and free community college.

Those are just two plans that President Barack Obama is calling for in his sixth State of the Union address.

A major focus of the president's speech Tuesday night, was a tax proposal to help the middle-class.  President Obama is calling for a tax hike on the rich and a tax cut for  middle-class workers.  The tax hike would pay for community college and faster internet.

The president also focused on immigration, health care, climate change, and plans to battle terrorism.

According to political science professor Dr. David Kozak of Gannon University, with it being a time of intense political polarization and with Republicans in control of Congress, many of Obama's plans will be rejected.

"Times have changed since he was first elected,” said Dr. Kozak.  “It's very unlikely these major initiatives that have been leaked are going to be enacted into public policy.  But, they're still his plans for the country.”

This is the first time that Obama had to address a Republican controlled Congress.
