Home Instead Senior Care has more than 1,000 franchises all around the country, including one here in Erie.

The local, family owned business has been growing to meet the needs of elderly clients who want to remain home, but need help. Making sure their senior clients get the help they need is what drives franchise owners Bob and Diane Cunningham.

Bob Cunningham said, "The two of us, we wake up in the morning talking about clients. We go to bed at night talking about clients. We live and breathe our clients, making sure they are taken care of properly."

The company carefully screens applicants for caregiver jobs, then provides training at its Millcreek headquarters.

Diane Cunningham said, "We really have to be sure they have good integrity and are trustworthy."

The local franchise has grown tremendously since 2009 when the couple took over. There are now more than 300 caregivers and employees. The company has added 59 just this year.

Home Instead Senior Care does not provide nursing care. But its caregivers handle many duties ranging from companionship for seniors suffering from Alzheimer's and Dementia to household chores and meal preparation.
