An estimated 750,000 hunters were in the woods statewide today for the start of Pennsylvania's rifle deer season.

In our area, it was a sunny, cold day. But no snow to help hunters track the deer.

And hunters were limited to shooting only antlered deer. Under a new rule, antlerless deer, or does, are off limits until Saturday.

Many hunters say there was less shooting than usual.

But still, some hunters managed to get a buck on opening day.

Mike Roofner said, "Got lucky. He came within range of my stand, made a good shot for a quick, clean kill."

Ray Krupa said, "It was just feeding in the acorns, coming on through. One shot right through the heart."
