Investigators are trying to determine if a body found Friday evening in Presque Isle Bay is that of an Ohio man who has been missing for over a month.

Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook told Erie News Now that a body of a white male was found, completely decomposed.

The body was recovered around 5 p.m. after police received a 911 call bout a possible body floating in the bay off Ore Dock Road near Erie Sand and Gravel.

Police have not confirmed the identify of the body, but it is believed to be 91-year-old John Peters, of Ohio.

A search for Peters began a month ago after his car was found abandoned near Rum Runners off Dobbins Landing.

Erie County Sheriff's Department Scuba Team have spent weeks searching the area where the car was found.

Police hope to possibly identify the body sometime Saturday.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday at noon.
