Ceremony Kicks Off Multi-Million Dollar Harbor Place Development Project on Erie Bayfront
A multi-million dollar development project on Erie's bayfront, is underway. Today, Scott Enterprises held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project’s first phase, a new, 8-story hotel.
The new,$20 million Hampton Inn and Suites is only the beginning for a project called Harbor Place. Harbor Place is a $160 million development project that includes a waterfront restaurant, office space, another hotel, retail shops, parking garages, condos and apartments, a skating rink, and a skywalk to UPMC Hamot.
"It's going to be quality and it's going to be a place where people want to work, live, and play. And, they'll come downtown and they'll live here again,” says Nick Scott, Sr., Company President.
The hotel should be completed in 12 to 14 months. Phase Two would then begin. Phase Two includes the construction of an 8-story, $20 million, office building with retail space on the ground floor.
"We need support and we need some funding help. We've applied to the state for another $8 million grant for the office building,” says Scott Sr.
The state already granted $5 million for the hotel project. The hotel will be upscale, with 100 guest rooms. 30% of the rooms will be suites. It also will include a rooftop bar, the first of its kind for the hotel chain.
Nick Scott, Jr./Vice president | Scott Enterprises:"I really believe that once we get the hotel out of the ground, the momentum will continue to build, and you'll see Harbor Place built out over the next 7 to 10 years, said Nick Scott, Jr., Company V.P.
Nick Scott Sr. wants Erie to shed its Rust Belt image and be, what he calls, “A shining city on the shore of Lake Erie.” He says Harbor Place will help accomplish that mission.
