Drivers on West 12th Street in the City of Erie will see lane restrictions for a few more days after a water main break Friday.

Erie Water Works CEO Paul Voytek said repairs are complete, but crews found a void underground. Dirt and concrete needs to be replaced, so fixing the road near Chestnut Street will take longer than expected.

It is not expected to open up until Friday.

Only drivers using the westbound lanes of 12th Street near Chestnut will be affected by the lane restrictions

Water Works crews Friday night thought they had a break in a 20-inch main, but it turned out to be a 12-inch pipe that ruptured. After crews repaired it, another section of the pipe nearby ruptured and also had to be repaired.

Contractors have to restore the road to state specifications because West 12th Street is a state highway.
