A new program was unveiled today to help disadvantaged young people and adults in our area.

The Erie Center for Arts & Technology has a board of directors in place.

Now it is looking for an executive director and a location.

The center, based on the  Manchester Bidwell Corporation in Pittsburgh, will offer at no cost, job training and programs in the visual arts.

The job training will focus on a medical assistant program.

Organizers say Erie is the perfect spot for the new center.

Founder of the Manchester Bidwell Corporation Bill Strickland said, "You have problems with employment. There are a lot of unemployed people. there are a lot of children who are struggling academically in the school system. We think we can help address the problem."

The program will be paid for by a combination of grants and donations.
