Owner Works to Open Erie's only Haunted House Attraction this October
It's been several years since the city of Erie has had a haunted house attraction, but this year those looking for a scare might see a familiar place reopen.
After years of being shut down, local haunted house attraction Eeriebyss owner Greg Sutterland, is confident the place will open this year in time for the Halloween season.
Eeriebyss Factory of Terror, located at 1053 west 12th street in Erie, was shut down unexpectedly in 2016 for failing to meet multiple building code requirements.
Erie News Now caught up with Sutterland who said he's made progress to open the attraction back up.
If you take a look at the building you can see an electricity and building permit on the door replacing the spots where closed notices once were.
Sutterland said he also installed a whole new sprinkler and alarm system that he said has been tested, approved and meet the requirements that he failed to meet in previous years.
Now, he says there's just a few more items on the checklist before that grand-reopening.
"We had a door to install for example, and some electrical things to complete," Sutterland said. "The sprinkler system needs a bit of final work and that's about it. That's about it for now."
Some may argue that trying to reopen the haunted attraction is becoming more of a headache, but Sutterland, who was born on Halloween, said it's worth it.
"It's just something I love to do. I even worked on various haunts down in Conneaut Lake at Ghost Lake and that area," Sutterland said. "This building just by driving down 12th street you know it has to be haunted or feels like it. And I'm in the construction field so it's a natural fit for me."
Sutterland plans to open the haunted attraction in the first weekend of October.
