Bob Merski Wins Race for Second District General Assembly
Democrat Bob Merski is the winner of the race for Second District General Assembly. Merski defeated Republican candidate Tim Kuzma with a tally of 13,188 votes to 7,106 votes.
Merski is an Erie City Councilman. During the campaign, he gave extra attention to precincts in Millcreek and Summit townships where he may not be as well known. He ended up winning in every precinct of the district.
Merski said an aggressive door to door campaign was a key to his victory.
"Bringing that message directly to the people was very effective. And also listening to them. Many of the people I spoke with said that it's been years since somebody's come out to their door. So, it was refreshing for them to see a candidate at their door,” he said.
Merski will take over the seat vacated by the late Flo Fabrizio, who died of cancer last July. Fabrizio endorsed Merski during the Democratic primary.
