The Erie Catholic Diocese will join other dioceses around the state in creating a compensation fund for victims of clergy sexual abuse.
In a statement, the diocese said it is finalizing the details of the fund, calling it a vital, but complex undertaking.
The move comes after that devastating grand jury report outlining the abuse of more than 1,000 victims in six dioceses including Erie.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, who ran the grand jury investigation say while victims deserve compensation, they also deserve their day in court.
The church has opposed efforts in Harrisburg to reform statute of limitation laws to allow victims of past abuse to file lawsuits.
