Laser Eye Surgery of Erie has been helping patients with vision problems since the early 1980's.

It specializes in LASIK.

Before anyone has a LASIK  procedure, Dr. Robert Haverly and his staff have to make sure he or she is a good candidate for surgery.

Dr. Haverly  said, "We do a complex and thorough eye exam. We have a lot of specialized equipment that can analyze the cornea, lens and retina to make sure their eye is healthy for surgery and make sure we can get them through surgery safely."

Basically LASIK uses a laser to re-shape the inner cornea so that images focus correctly on the retina and improve vision. The procedure is used to deal with nearsightedness, farsightedness  and astigmatism. The LASIK is done in just minutes.

Dr. Haverly said, "Usually to do LASIK in both eyes takes about 20 minutes, about 10 minutes per eye."

The practice also focuses on cataract surgery.

Laser Eye Surgery of Erie is a busy practice. In a typical day Dr. Haverly and two other doctors in the office see more than 100 patients.

Dr. Haverly  said, "Some of them come from Cleveland, the Buffalo area, south of Pittsburgh. A lot from Erie and the Chautauqua area too."

They come to improve their vision.

Dr. Haverly says that goal is what has been driving him for more than 20 years.

He said, "The goal is to try to provide the best vision possible in the safest way possible. Knowing the patients are doing well is what keeps me going."
