The Erie Catholic Diocese said it will not release the two names redacted in the grand jury report on child sex abuse, according to a statement obtained by Erie News Now Tuesday.

It comes one day after the State Supreme Court ruled the names in the report can remain redacted.

State Attorney General Josh Shapiro said while he is not allowed to release the redacted names, nothing is preventing the bishops from sharing the names with parishioners.

In a statement, the Diocese said:

Our lawyers have independently investigated both cases and have not been able to substantiate them. It is our policy not to publicize unsubstantiated allegations. As a result, the Diocese of Erie will not be publishing the two names that the Supreme Court has ordered remain redacted unless further evidence is discovered.

39 of the 41 offenders in the Erie Diocese were identified in the report.
