The Erie Public School District is continuing its effort to add more diversity among its staff. This is part of the districts plan to increase student success rates and make them feel more comfortable in their learning environment.

The school district has been working since last year to fill this diversity gap and has since made several new hires.
Erie News Now caught up with East Middle School's most recent hire, music teacher Aaron Taylor.
Taylor said he hopes his students consider him a role model and that it helps push them forward in school and life.

"What they're learning is not only going to help them in the class but also when they move on to the next grade and high schools that Erie has to offer." Taylor said.

The school district hopes staff members like Taylor inspires students and helps them succeed.

School leaders said the effort to hire a more diverse staff does not stop here and that the school district plans to hire more qualified teachers in the future.
