The longtime head of the Erie Parking Authority is retiring.

Ray Massing will step down early next month.

Deputy Director Christopher Friday will take his place.

Massing has led the authority since 2004.

He previously worked as operations director for the authority.

Massing has been a strong advocate for new parking technology to allow users to pay for parking with smart phones.
