Jay-C McGlumphy, 20, left the Erie County Courthouse on Wednesday, knowing that he will be a 43-year-old man, before he will have his next chance at freedom.

After pleading guilty to third-degree murder in October, Judge John Garhart sentenced McGlumphy to 25 to 50 years in prison, for his role in a targeted drive-by shooting, which claimed the life of 18-year-old Isiah Wiley.

"As a family, having such a significant loss, doesn't seem like enough,” said Wiley’s cousin Tiffanie Page-Collazo.  “But, we understand."

In June of 2016, prosecutors say Wiley was on his way to Harding Elementary School to pick up his niece from a field trip, when McGlumphy opened fire on his car, striking Wiley and missing his passenger.

Wiley--who police say was not the intended target--died at the scene.

"He was living a good life for a young man his age,” said Wiley’s Uncle Desmond Martin.  “I'm just sad he didn't get to accomplish some of the things he wanted to accomplish for himself."

Even though McGlumphy has been sentenced, the investigation is far from over.

Erie County Assistant District Attorney Erin Connelly says investigators believe other people were involved in the shooting.

"We do know there were other people in the car,” said Connelly.  “So, this is still an ongoing investigation at this point.

McGlumphy was two months shy of his 18th birthday, when he was charged with the crime, but a request to have his case moved to juvenile court was denied.

Judge Garhart also denied a last minute written request to withdraw his guilty plea.

"I think that was cowardly,” said Martin.  “I mean, if you are a man and you do a crime, you've got to be able to do your time…I can't be mad at the judge for telling him no."
