More than 50 disadvantaged senior citizens will be getting Christmas gifts thanks to Highmark employees, and the staff at Strong Vincent Middle School.

Leaders of the holiday effort delivered huge bags of gifts to the JFK Center today.

The gifts will be handed out at the neighborhood center's annual Christmas luncheon for seniors next Friday.

Employees of Highmark and the school each bought gifts from a wish list made out by seniors at the center.

Katrina Byrd of Strong Vincent Middle School said, "We wanted to give back to the community. So we sent out a big e-mail to the staff. Sixteen teachers, staff and volunteers gave their service, time and money  and bought them a gift for what they wanted."

Highmark began the presents for seniors program 21 years ago.

This year, about 700 gifts will be given out around the state.
