John Grazioli took the stand to testify Wednesday afternoon about the shooting death of his wife, Amanda, as part of the defense's case.

Grazioli testified he bought the gun for his wife as a gift. He said both had been partying the night before the homicide, which involved alcohol, cocaine and marijuana, when John mentioned to Amanda that he bought her a gift for her birthday, which was six weeks away.

The next day, Amanda wanted to see what it was. That's when John said he showed her the Glock. John said he noticed the gun was loaded, so he went to take the ammunition out when it went off and shot her in the back of the head.

Grazioli also mentioned Amanda was caught in the middle of a custody battle with his ex-wife.

Wednesday's testimony

A Millcreek police officer was called to the stand. He testified a box containing several letters and John Grazioli's Last Will and Testament was recovered from his ex-wife's home. In the will, Grazioli left all of his belongings to his ex-wife and children. It also said, "I leave nothing of any value to my spouse, Amanda Elizabeth Grazioli."

Amanda Grazioli's sister also gave emotional testimony. She said her family was planning a trip to Cuba, and John Grazioli was on a group text message about it.

The Glock handgun that prosecutors said John Grazioli used to kill his wife was also the subject of testimony, as prosecutors presented evidence collected from St. Peter's Cathedral, where Grazioli was arrested. The evidence included a jacket with the handgun inside of it.
