Imagine a world where just about every appliance you use, thought for itself? According to one former tech executive, you may not have to imagine much longer.

Former Chief Innovation Officer at IBM, Linda Bernardi, spoke to Penn State Behrend students about this topic Wednesday night.

Bernardi says as we progress in automation technology, soon, we will see just about every appliance become self-serving. She says there will be some challenges with the new technology, especially from a security stand-point.

But otherwise, she believes it could have a positive effect on everyday life and business.

"Comfort doesn't happen overnight with internet of things, the same way it wasn't then, it just takes some time," said Linda Bernardi, Entrepreneur/Author.

We asked her if there could ever be a terminator-like situation, where the devices strike back. She told us, absolutely not.
