People found in violation of the large item trash pickup will now face fines.

The City of Erie will start handing out Quality of Life tickets.

The ordinance allows city code enforcement to issue a notice similar to a parking ticket for code violations on the exterior of private properties.

Under the city's large item pickup program, residents must call the city or schedule a large item pickup online.

Anyone who does not schedule a pickup can be issued a $25 ticket.

"This is more geared towards the violator," said Andy Zimmerman, code enforcement manager. "Whoever the violator is, that's who we want to target. It's not so much the owner of the property but more the violator."

Code enforcement will being targeting other violations, such as high weeds, at a later date.
