There's a big upswing in passenger traffic at Erie International Airport.

Boardings were up in the months of January and February, shattering the statistics from the year before. When numbers are compared for the months of January and February, there were 3,286 more passengers in 2019 as there were in 2018. That's an increase of 13 percent.

According to Derek Martin, Executive Director of the Erie Regional Airport Authority, passenger numbers should keep going up. He says 18,250 additional seats will be available beginning May 3 when American Airlines begins its regional jet service to Charlotte and Chicago.

"With that growth and sort of our great January and February, we believe that there will be over 200,000 passengers utilizing the airport in 2019," Martin said.

The last year the airport had over 200,000 passengers was in 2013.
