Mosques in Erie are responding to the terrorist attack in New Zealand.

Thursday, 49 people were killed and over 40 seriously injured when a terrorist with white-nationalist ties entered two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, and opened fire.

Here in Erie most mosques had their normal Friday service but some had additional surveillance from Erie Police. That additional security is similar to what we've seen across the country. From Chicago to New York armed police stood guard.

Police in New Zealand have charged a 28-year old with murder and have two other suspects in custody. They are planning to have the 28-year old suspect's hearing closed to the public because of the heightened security risk.
