Sheetz plans to permanently close its store at 4816 Buffalo Rd. in Harborcreek Township on April 30, according to a statement issued Thursday.

The company said it made the decision "after a great deal of consideration" but did not provide any other details.

All employees will be offered employment at other Erie-area Sheetz stores, the statement said.

“Sheetz is incredibly appreciative of our customers and employees in Erie," said Adam Sheetz, the company's vice president of operations. "This decision was not made lightly, and while we are disappointed to announce this closure, Sheetz remains committed to our customers and employees in Erie. We look forward to continuing to be the ultimate one-stop-shop for customers at our five other store locations in the Erie region.”

Harborcreek Township Supervisors approved the transfer of a liquor license for the Sheetz location in January.

Harborcreek Township Supervisor Dean Pepicello told Erie News Now Thursday evening , "the location is constantly busy, so this is very surprising. Individual businesses thrive or fail for various reasons. We dont know the reason yet. We are hopeful for a positive fate for this site. "
