Pittsburgh City Council passed controversial gun legislation that would make it "unlawful to manufacture, sell, purchase, transport, carry, store or otherwise hold in one’s possession an assault weapon within the city" during its meeting Tuesday morning, according to WPXI.

The legislation also allows courts to take weapons from people considered to be a risk.

Guns rights supporters have said they plan to sue the city and file complaints against council members.

The bill now goes to Pittsburgh's mayor, who is expected to sign it into law.
