Three people traveling by horse and buggy were injured in a crash in Sparta Township, Crawford County on Sunday.

It was reported in the 24500 block of State Highway 88 and 77 around 1:55 p.m.

A Honda Civic driven by Gerry Williams, 53, of Grand Valley, was traveling north when it came up on a slow-moving horse and buggy and clipped the wheel of the buggy, troopers said.

The car then left the road, hit a utility pole and suffered heavy front-end damage, according to State Police.

The drivers of the car and the buggy were not injured, but three 16-year-olds in the buggy were ejected onto the road and taken to Corry Memorial Hospital for treatment. Two suffered suspected serious injuries while the other's injuries were minor, troopers said.

Williams has been cited for careless driving, according to State Police.
