The name of the man who was hit and killed by a train in east Erie Sunday afternoon has been released.

The victim has been identified as Summit Subba, 21. His death has been ruled as accidental due to blunt force trauma, according to the Erie County Coroner.

Officers responded the the tracks about 4:10 p.m. after the engineer of the train traveling through the city contacted authorities and reported hitting a pedestrian on the tracks.

He reported that the incident happened in the area of East 18th and Gaskell Avenue.  After several minutes of searching, officers located Subba's body beneath the stopped train in the stretch of track between Wayne and Reed Streets.

First responders confirmed Subba suffered fatal injuries.  They called the Erie County Coroner Office to the scene.

According to officers at the scene, the conductor told investigators after spotting the pedestrian, he used all warning signals including his horn, and then braking to try and avoid hitting Subba, but he was unable to stop.

Train speeds are 40-miles-per hour in that span.

Police officers said Subba was wearing ear buds, so they don't know if he heard the train approaching.
