Second time was the charm for veteran lawyer Ed Smith in the race for Erie County Court of Common Pleas Judge, as he secured one of two Republican nominations during Tuesday's primary election.

He watched the numbers come in at the Public House and celebrated landing the second highest vote total on the Republican ticket in this cross-filed race.

Smith will be on the ballot in the fall election. He is running to fill one of two open judgeships on the Erie County bench.

He said he worked hard to get people to know his name and his reputation, knocking on lots of doors.

Smith said he is ready for the challenge in the fall.

"I'm certainly happy to survive another day, no question," said Smith. "We've got a fight in the fall. We'll take it, and we'll go with it."
