It's been a long night of bargaining for the two sides in the ongoing labor dispute out at the Wabtec plant in Lawrence park, but there is still no deal as of Tuesday morning.

They went past the midnight expiration of that 90-day interim deal.

The two sides issued a joint statement Tuesday morning saying:

“While negotiations between Wabtec and UE 506 and 618 ran late into the morning and failed to produce a settlement, we will return to the negotiating table on Wednesday, June 5 and remain optimistic that we will find a fair and equitable outcome for all parties.”

The two sides have been bargaining for three months. They're negotiating for their first contract with the new owners of the former GE plant.

Wabtec dropped a demand for mandatory overtime and improved the two-tier wage proposal. Pay for new hires would now start at $17 and progress over the years to the average $35 hourly wage of current union workers.

Union members walked off the job for nine days earlier this year, but they can't go on strike again for a few more weeks if it comes to that.

The two sides are expected to return to the bargaining table on Wednesday.
