Skull, Other Human Remains Found in Springfield Township
Human remains were found near Pennsylvania Game Commission Lands in western Erie County Sunday afternoon.
Pennsylvania State Police and the office of the Erie County Coroner responded.
They called in the expertise of the forensic anthropology investigative team from Mercyhurst University, headed by Dr. Dennis Dirkmaat.
The location of the discovery is a wooded area near Rudd Road and Childs Road, near the railroad tracks in Springfield Township. It is very close to the Ohio line.
Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook would not say who made the discovery. He did confirm that the bones are human remains, including a skull. Cook said the person may have been deceased as long as two years.
This latest find of human remains comes at the same time that the forensic experts are working to process and identify human remains found in Frontier Park in April during a spring cleanup day.
