Asbury Woods Offers Tips to Avoid Pesky Mosquitoes this Season
After rainy days like today, you may want to keep your bug repellant handy, that's because it is turning into mosquito season.
Not only can mosquitoes be a nuisance, but they can also carry disease,
Besides the itch they leave behind, Education and Program Coordinator at Asbury Woods, Melissa Martin says mosquitoes could carry diseases like the West Nile Virus.
"Mosquitoes can be annoying, they can be vectors for different diseases," she said. "So we want to be diligent to our exposure to mosquitoes."
Martin says rainy days provide ideal conditions for mosquitoes to start multiplying.
She says the best ways to keep mosquitoes away include wearing light colored clothing, covering up as best as you can, and wear bug spray.
"For most people it's going to end up an annoying bump on their skin but there are some bigger reasons you want to avoid those mosquitoes," said Martin.
BONUS TIP:
Martin said to make sure you do not have any puddles with standing water, and to be sure you are checking your flower pots, or any kids toys that are left outside.
