As the summer travel season heats up, you may have noticed a drop in gas prices.

Checking around Erie Tuesday afternoon, we found most places reporting gas prices of $2.89 per gallon of unleaded fuel. The informal survey matches recent data from AAA.

As of Tuesday, the national average for a gallon of gas is $2.73, and the statewide average is $2.88.

Locally, it's a little higher with both Erie and Crawford counties checking in at $2.90 per gallon. The most expensive gas in our region is in Warren county, where a gallon of unleaded gas will cost drivers $3.00 according to AAA.

The statewide average one month ago was $3.03 Per gallon, and a year ago it was $3.06.
