UPDATE: Richard W. Smith was found alive and well approximately .6 mile from the residence in a heavily wooded area, State Police said. He was walking along the bank of a lease road off Forest Route 160 in Mead Township, according to troopers. He was taken to Warren General Hospital for precautionary treatment.


Pennsylvania State Police are searching for a missing man who suffers from Alzheimer's disease in Warren County.

Richard W. Smith, 80, left his residence in the area of 102 Wardwell Ln., near State Route 59 in Mead Township, on foot sometime between 10:30 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday, according to State Police.

Troopers said he does not know his way around and could be disoriented and confused.

Smith is described as 6' tall and 185 pounds with brown eyes and gray hair above the ear. He was wearing glasses, white sneakers, blue jeans and a white sweatshirt with ducks on the front chest.

An extensive search involving State Police, as well as Clarendon, Pleasant and Glade Township Volunteer Fire Departments and the Northwest PA K-9 Search and Rescue team, is underway.
