Erie Police have released the name of the suspect arrested on charges of indecent assault against a female church volunteer.

They identify the suspect as Josue Mendez, 25. He is facing a long list of charges including aggravated assault, aggravated indecent assault, and unlawful restraint.

Investigators charged Mendez with assaulting the woman inside St. Joseph Church at 147 West 24th Street around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Sources say she was hurt, but is expected to be okay.

According to police records, Mendez Pratt had been staying at the Erie City Mission.  Officers gave no other address for the suspect.

When the suspect was still at large, Erie Police posted a security camera photo of his on the department Facebook page and described him as a Hispanic male who speaks with a strong accent.

After he was arrested, Erie Police officers say the suspect confessed to the crime.

Police are investigating a case of attempted sexual assault in an alley the day before the church incident. They are working to determine whether Mendez may be a person of interest in that crime.
