Community members who live close to Erie Coke are expressing their concerns over the appeal and soon to be air quality testing on neighborhoods near the facility.

Steve Narusewicz has lived on Queen street on Erie's east side all his life. There's been a lot of changes since then, but one thing has remained the same.

"There's always been a dirt or dust problem," he said.

He said it's from Erie Coke, which is just down the street.

Now that Erie Coke plans to conduct an EPA Cancer Risk Assessment for its emissions, he said, he's skeptical.

"I think it's too little too late," he said. "Why didn't they do that when they were first fined. To me it's just a last ditch effort to appease the powers to be to allow them to stay open."
