As an ongoing dispute between Erie Coke Corp. and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection continues, Congressman Mike Kelly is now weighing in on the issue.

On Friday, Kelly released the following statement:

“It is my sincere hope that Erie Coke does what’s necessary to comply with state and federal environmental regulations so that the very real concerns about Erie’s air quality and the cleanliness of Lake Erie will be addressed without our region losing the jobs the company provides.”

Erie Coke has been facing numerous violations and the DEP is seeking to have the plant shut down.

Both sides are currently presenting their case in front of a judge for the state’s Environmental Hearing Board.

Erie News Now will continue to follow this ongoing hearing and will bring you the very latest as it develops.
