As you take your kiddos to the playground this week, there could be a hidden danger brought on by the hot temperatures. We're talking about playground equipment that gets really hot, as the temps rise, and what dangers it presents to your kids.

West Ridge Fire Chief Jerry DeRosa showed us that although the temperature outside was around 80 degrees most of the equipment didn't read any lower than 100.

Family Physician at Saint Vincent, Bradley Fox said when you bring your kid to the playground on those hot summer days, be sure to check the equipment to prevent any burns or injuries.

"You have to worry about hot surfaces, is the jungle gym hot for the grips of your hands, is it going to be hot for your body as you roll over it?" He asked.

Other tips include finding a park that's shaded, wearing plenty of sunscreen, and staying hydrated.
