Food trucks will be rolling into downtown Erie this weekend for Gears & Grub.

The food truck festival, which also features live entertainment and a beer garden, will be held in Perry Square.

It runs Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

There will also be a petting zoo, activities for kids, game booths, craft vendors and more.

Here's a look at what you can expect:

Food trucks

For the past three years, Gears & Grub was organized by the owners of the West Erie Plaza, where the food truck festival was held. It discontinued the event after 2018 because the redeveloped plaza is now occupied by more businesses and cannot spare the parking and space like before.

Members of the Erie Food Truck Alliance decided to bring back the event for 2019. Organizers decided to host the food truck festival in downtown Erie after Roar on the Shore, which is being held the same weekend, moved its HUB from Perry Square to Lake Erie Speedway.

Gears & Grub originated in 2016 as an alternative to Roar on the Shore because organizers of the motorcycle rally would not allow local food vendors, specifically food trucks, to set up in downtown Erie during the four-day motorcycle rally.

Road closures

State St. between North Park Row and 7th St., as well as South Park Row between French and Peach St., will be closed for the event. The streets will reopen by 10 p.m. Sunday.
